YOGA IN SCHOOLS

MINDFULNESS & MOVEMENT EDUCATION

Dedicated to bringing the benefits of movement, mindfulness and breathing to schools, nurturing the wellbeing of young minds and bodies.

'Imagine every child grows up with a sense of inner peace and with the tools that empower them to tap into their own inner wisdom and strength when they need it.'

Yoga in schools

Yoga combines physical activity, mindfulness and breathing exercises that support children and adolescents with their overall health and wellbeing, including reducing stress and anxiety, improve mood and improve sleep. Regular practice can enhance focus and increase concentration, and confidence as well as strength and flexibility in mind and body which can help in test and exam situations as well as overall academic performance, classroom management and behavior.

Yoga combines physical activity and breath work, with meditation and mindfulness, to improve strength, relaxation, focus and mood management.

What we do

We come to your school at a time that fits in with the students and school’s schedule. Classes are designed to teach kids and teens tools to cope and skills to thrive in a fun and engaging, nonjudgmental environment.

All classes are kept secular and will be tailored to the schools/student’s needs.

Mindful movement is a non-competitive form of movement and meets every child/person where they are at.

Our classes include

Breathing

Breathing exercises can benefit children and adolescence in many ways including, relaxing the body, refocusing the mind, reducing stress and anxiety, lowering heart rate, increasing the body's oxygen levels, calming the nervous system, decreasing feelings of anxiety and lowering or preventing stress or strong emotions.

Movement

Movement is great, not only for the body but also for the mind. It provides young people with an outlet for excess energy and frustration. It can help increase memory, perception, language, attention, emotion and even decision making as well as keeping the body strong, flexible and healthy.

Mindfulness

With Mindfulness students are more focused and engaged learners. Recent studies of school aged young people found that those who practiced mindfulness had better emotion and behaviour regulation, higher academic performance, lower depression & anxiety and scores and better social skills.

Social & Emotional Learning

Yoga and mindfulness support Social & Emotional Learning (SEL). Yoga and mindfulness tools practiced regularly can help to develop critical thinking, improve self-awareness and management, and improve communication and connection within the classroom and the community. This aligns with the 5 SEL outcomes of self-awareness, self-management, relationship skills, social awareness and responsible decision making. (YogaED)

Relaxation

Research has shown that students who relax regularly are not only happier, but also more optimistic and better listeners. Learning to relax from an early age can help students manage their stress and stay in control. It also helps them to concentrate. Students who learn the various tips and techniques for relaxation and concentration can apply them in all areas of their academic career as well as in other areas of life.

Play, Fun & Laughter

Laughter is highly beneficial to children in various ways including social, developmental and physiological benefits. Some of the physiological benefits are reduced anxiety, stress, and depression, improved sleep, release of the feel-good hormones, improves circulation, can have muscle relaxation effects, re-energizes the body, boosts mood, improves digestion and strengthens the immune system.
